An azo synthetic colorant. It imparts a red color but, due to its universally recognized toxicity, its use has been banned in the European Union since 2008. In Romania, it was not allowed before 2002, when it was introduced for use in coloring hamburgers and certain breakfast sausages for political-economic reasons. Currently, it is also banned in Romania.
