How BioBrief Works on Android
Open the app, point your Android camera at a product barcode, and BioBrief returns a colour-coded ingredient summary instantly. No account required to start scanning. The app works offline for products already in the database, so you can scan in the supermarket even without a signal. For products not in the database, switch to AI label scan mode and photograph the printed ingredients list directly.
Additive Database
BioBrief checks every ingredient against a database of over 380 food additives and flags anything with a high harm score, anything banned or restricted in the EU or specific countries, and synthetic preservatives such as BHA, BHT, and TBHQ. Each flagged ingredient links to a plain-language explanation page so you can read the evidence and decide for yourself.
Allergen Detection
Set your dietary rules once — gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, soy-free, or any combination — and BioBrief highlights matching ingredients on every scan. The app covers the 14 major allergens required by EU labelling law plus sesame. It also catches hidden allergen sources: casein and whey for dairy, lecithin for soy, malt for gluten.
Kids and Family Mode
BioBrief includes a dedicated kids mode that applies a stricter safety threshold for additives, flagging ingredients that are generally considered safe for adults but are best avoided by young children. Set your family's dietary rules once and every scan is automatically checked against them.
Free on Google Play
BioBrief is free to download on Google Play. The core features — barcode scan, AI label scan, additive lookup, allergen alerts, and homemade recipe links — are free. A premium tier adds unlimited scan history, shopping list sync, and detailed nutritional analysis.
