How Allergen Scanning Works
Open BioBrief, scan a product barcode or photograph the ingredients list, and the app instantly highlights any ingredients that match your dietary rules. BioBrief covers the 14 major allergens required by EU labelling law — including gluten, dairy, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, sesame, celery, mustard, lupin, molluscs, and sulphites — plus sesame as a standalone flag.
Set Your Dietary Rules Once
Configure your allergen profile in the app settings and every subsequent scan is automatically checked against your rules. You can set multiple allergens at once — for example, gluten-free and dairy-free — and BioBrief flags any product that contains either. Switch profiles manually if you are scanning for someone else.
Beyond Allergens: Full Ingredient Analysis
BioBrief does more than allergen scanning. It also checks every ingredient against a database of over 380 food additives, flags anything with a high harm score or banned in the EU, and provides plain-language explanations for every flagged ingredient. Use it as your all-in-one food label decoder.
Free Allergen Scanner for iPhone and Android
BioBrief is free to download on the App Store and Google Play. Allergen scanning, barcode scan, AI label scan, and additive lookup are all free. A premium tier adds unlimited scan history and shopping list sync.
